I’ve saved the best product review for last! I am super excited about this one too, and I know you ALL will love it.
Learning Resources sent me this amazing document camera to try out for them:
It is so sweet, and tiny, and lightweight! It is called the Luna Interactive Projection Camera. I had a document camera in my room, but anyone in the school could use it. How do you share a document camera?!
This document camera plugs right into you computer, and once you install the software, you are good to go. (Of course you will need a projector too).
The COOLEST thing about this document camera? It takes pictures! It takes video!!
We had tons of fun using the Luna for shared reading of our little books. I projected a little book on the screen and the children followed along and read as I pointed. Here’s the best part -- we LISTENED back to what we read! I could walk around and listen to kids reading as the video played back, and we could talk about how we all sounded when we read. They thought it was the coolest thing EVER!
(That’s not me – this is a picture from Learning Resources )
The Luna can also take pictures, so, if we are working through an art project or directed drawing together, I could take pictures of each step. Later, I could import them into a flipchart or a document for my later reference or for a child that may have missed the activity.
The only thing I disliked about the Luna? You had to have the projector plugged into your computer. With my other document camera, I could just plug my projector cable into the document camera and I’m good to go. I don’t always have my laptop plugged into my whiteboard.
Here’s a video showing more of what Luna can do.
The Luna is priced at an affordable amount for schools at $199.00. But, wait…..you can WIN ONE!
Learning Resources is giving away a Luna Interactive Projection Camera to one of my very lucky readers!

Oh, oh, oh, pick me pretty, pretty PLEASE! I would use this in my class to model writing and reading strategies to my French students. A doc camera is really the ONLY way I can do this (because they are middle schoolers, and I just can't turn my back on them while I talk out loud to myself and write on the board!!!) It would complement the LCD projector I bought with my own money this year sooooo nicely! Heading over to your TpT store now!
ReplyDeleteWhat an AWESOME giveaway... you're going to make some teacher very, very happy!

ReplyDeleteI have just discovered I am moving from 1st to K next year and so I was so excited to discover your blog! I have a feeling I will be hanging around here a lot this summer! My 1st grade room had a doc cam and projector but unfortunately our K classrooms do not. I'm sure going to struggle without the technology and so I am scrounging around and fundraising for a projector. This doc cam would be fab! I would use it for sharing student work, modeling use of manipulatives, and center games, detailed handwriting practice, shared reading of student work..... The additional features of this camera sound amazing and it appears the possibilities are endless!
ReplyDeleteI am getting an activboard this year, so I can think of one million ways to put this to use in my classroom!! :)
ReplyDeleteI would love to use the Luna in my classroom for shared reading, modeling of various activities, using manipulatives...I would especially love it for projecting materials and text larger for my visually impaired students!

I would definitely use this in my K classroom for showing the whole class math concepts with manipulatives. I would also use it for students to share their writing with the whole class. I don't have a projector yet (supposed to get one in a year or two), but maybe this could convince my administration to move up that date.

Oh man! You could use this for everything!!! And take videos too? That would be so cool. They could do readers theater. Mostly, I see myself using it for math. Sooo fun!!!
ReplyDeleteI could use it for so many things...but first I would use it to let the students share their work. Then I could use it to demo how to use the manipulatives. I would love to use the video to show my students what their puppet shows look like. I never thought of a document camera as a video camera. I would love to play with that feature. I hope I win! No one in my building has a document camera.

I think this would work well as students are singing a song and following along with the music on the board. It often helps if I am able to point to the words or the notes as they sing or play so that all students are able to stay together. It could be a really great help!
