I Teach K and Center Round-Up!

Have you made plans to attend the National Kindergarten Conference this summer?!  This conference is one of the best professional development opportunities out there for Kindergarten teachers because all of the sessions are targeted directly to US!  This is the 4th year I will be attending this conference and the 2nd year I am presenting.  This year I will be presenting TWO sessions.  Both are sessions that I am super passionate and excited about!

On Tuesday, July 8th at 1:00, I will be speaking about morning routines and how to start the day with a positive attitude (both you and your students :).  I will share with you about our morning routines, morning meetings, daily news and daily calendar time.  I hope that you can come and see this session – I am very excited about it!

My second session is immediately following my first on Tuesday, July 8th at 2:45.  I will discussing different ways to set up centers in your classroom – whether you are a daily 5 type teacher, a workstation or a literacy center type teacher, I will share with you ideas for management and super fun centers that your students will stay engaged with while you work with individuals or small groups of students.

What Happened to February? Whirlwind Review and What’s Coming up…

Here is what we have been up to in my classroom…

We celebrated the 100th day.  The day was so crazy I barely had time to capture many pictures!  All of the activities we did came from my 100th day unit.

This week we are working on US Symbols.  I am not quite ready to switch over my daily 5 and math centers yet, but when I do, we will be doing activities from this unit:

and I absolutely ADORE these QR activities from Sharing Kindergarten. We did the US President’s set on President’s day, and my principal was THROUGHLY impressed! My kiddos were SO engaged – I can’t wait to do the US symbols one!

I will also throw in some of my center activities from my I Can Learn Can You pack, in honor of the kitty that wears that striped hat! I’m hoping for a little more normalcy in March – my life has been a bit crazy – we almost lost my Dad at the end of January when his heart stopped TEN times.  Oh boy.  It’s been a long medical journey for him, but hopefully things will start to go better now.  I spent many days at the hospital keeping him and my mom company.

My girls have been dancing like crazy this month too! My oldest has had 2 competitions, and will be competing one more time this weekend.  I REALLY wanted to do Word Work packs for February and March, but with my dad’s health and my girls’ dancing life, other things had to be put on hold!

American Symbols

My first day back was a great success! The kids were so excited to have me back – I was feeling pretty special :) 

We started our unit on American Symbols unit this week.  I made this little freebie game for you all {and me!} to review/introduce American Symbols.  I have a map of snowy (yes, it snowed today) ND, but left a blank page so you could add your own map if you would like! I’m back and President’s

Thursday was my first day back at school, although I wasn’t back “officially.”  We had our spring goal setting conferences, and I wanted to be there for those – no fun having to make up so many conferences.  It was super fun seeing my kiddos on Thursday evening and Friday afternoon, although, I will admit, I am EXHAUSTED!

That totally made me smile when I came down the hallway.  I am very excited to be back with them on Monday, I just hope I can remember how to do it all! It feels like I have first day of school jitters!  I’ve never been gone from school for so long – my babies were either born when I was not teaching or on summer break (LUCKY!). 

Coming back from being gone so long, I have to admit, is just as much work as planning to be gone!  I spent a couple of hours after our conferences on Friday afternoon trying to put away center activities, file papers, and just clean up.  I’m still not done.  Sadly, I’m going to have to go back to school tomorrow to clean up the bigger mess that I made!!

But, I did get my centers in the drawers for next week.  Here’s what is on the agenda for President’s Week:

It’s a short week for us this week, we do have school on President’s Day, but we have half a day on Thursday and no school on Friday for staff PD, so I only have 4 of each center planned.
