Easter Week Centers

We have a 3 day week this week and next, so I switched things up a bit and went for 6 math and 6 literacy centers for the next 2 weeks.  So far so good!

Here is what the kiddos are working on:

{Literacy}

Counting Syllables

Using our sight words to write super sentences!

Adding with 3 numbers:

Still working on naming and saying the value of coins.

Which number is bigger?

Working with number words.  The children crack an egg and build the number word with the letter tiles that are inside of each egg. (download this one below!)

Who doesn’t love Peeps?

I think I forgot to snap a pic of the recording sheet for these 2 centers. The top one is for count the room, and the bottom is for an egg vowel hunt.

Here are some centers that we did last year too…I would love a comment if you download!  I’m making cookies/dessert for Easter – what’s your favorite thing to make for your kids (or with your kids) for Easter?

For this center, you can use picture cards or miniatures (like the ones from Lakeshore)

I can’t remember where the original idea for this sheet came from.  If you know or if it’s you, please let me know so I can give credit where it is due!  For this activity (doing it on Wednesday!), I put an assortment of jelly beans in a plastic egg – each child gets an egg to sort and graph. Fun!

We follow Scott Foresman Reading Street, and I usually save the book Bunny Time for this time of year.  We use this sheet to record things that we do in the morning, afternoon, and night.

Let me know what goodies you like to bake for Easter! Leave a link if you can!

Thank You (and some pumpkins, too!)

First and foremost, I need to say thank you.

Working at an air force school and teaching the children of the men and women of the armed forces is an amazing thing.  The children that I teach sacrifice so much every day.  I am so proud to be able to be their teacher.  Hearing our students sing, “I’m Proud to Be an American” and “God Bless America” to their parents this week and seeing so many parents in the audience in uniform brought tears to my eyes.  What an an amazing group of people.  Thank you for your service and for protecting our freedom.

Now on to the goodies! I feel like October flew by!  My camera has been stuck in my bag, and I haven’t taken it out! I have forgotten to take so many pictures – so here is what I have of our pumpkin unit!

The first few activities are from Julie Lee’s pumpkin pack:

IMG_2330

The children picked a word, read it, and wrote it two more times.

IMG_2331

This one was a bit tricky for some kiddos, so I gave them an alphabet strip to match the letters.  They put each set in ABC order and then wrote the letters.

IMG_2332

The children picked an item from the bucket and wrote the beginning sound on their pumpkin.

IMG_2338

The children spun the spinner, counted the pumpkins and wrote the number on a pumpkin.

IMG_2339

At this center, the children practiced matching the number word to the number.

The next pictures are activities that I created.

IMG_2336

The children counted the dots (seeds!) on the pumpkin and matched the pumpkin to the correct number and wrote how many seeds were on that pumpkin.

Sequencing Teen Numbers

IMG_2329

The children match the CVC word to the picture and then wrote the word again on their response sheet.

And the weekly pocket chart activity.

Lots of freebies for you today! I love reading all of your comments – leave a little note if you download! Smile

Did you find my monster freebie?  It’s a big one! Come back and tell me what you think of it!

Here is another freebie for you!

Laurie, one of my sweet readers, asked me to make some labels  for her Zero the Hero book! She is copying the pages and putting them in a 3-prong folder.  Here are the labels I made for her (Avery 5163)

And another set if you want some that are a bit bigger.  (You’ll have to cut these out and glue them on though!)

Armadillo’s Orange

If you use the Scott Foresman Reading Street Series, this book will probably be familiar to you!
image
It’s a cute story of a little armadillo who uses an orange to find his way back to his burrow.  When the orange rolls away, he doesn’t know how he will find his way back to his home.  What he never realized is that there were landmarks all around him to help him find his way home.
I’m very particular about the Tier 2 vocabulary words I teach the children this year – my final research project for my master’s degree is about vocabulary acquisition, development, and teaching.  I love when I teach a word like landmark and the children continue to use the word!
We paid particular attention to the sequence of the story and made an adorable story map:

We read some other books that had armadillo’s in them as well and compared/contrasted the setting and characters in each story.

We read some non-fiction books about armadillo’s and made an armadillo tree map.

We also did a directed drawing of an armadillo using directions from Jan Brett’s website.
I think they turned out super cute!

I know we did some math problem solving with this unit too – but I forgot to take pictures! It’s been a few weeks since we did this book, so I forgot!  I’ll try to remember this week to snap some and add them to the post!
Don’t forget to check out the post below for all of the great organizational ideas from all of our bloggy friends! I’ll slowly make my way through them! Link up if you have a great idea!
