4. I've found several answers. The first answer: probably none. Second, however, they could chuck dirt to make tunnels that are five feet deep and 35 feet long... so up to 700 pounds!

But seriously, I looked it up and... the answer is: About 700 pounds. Compared to beavers, groundhogs/woodchucks are not adept at moving timber, although some will chew wood. (At Cornell, woodchucks that gnaw their wooden nest boxes are given scraps of 2-by-4 lumber.) A wildlife biologist once measured the inside volume of a typical woodchuck burrow and estimated that -- if wood filled the hole instead of dirt -- the industrious animal would have chucked about 700 pounds' worth.

OK..I looked up what they might do in reality if they could: According to a Wall Street Journal article, New York State wildlife expert Richard Thomas found that a woodchuck could chuck around 35 cubic feet of dirt in the course of digging a burrow. Thomas reasoned that if a woodchuck could chuck wood, he would chuck an amount equal to 700 pounds.

Groundhogs are one of the few animals that go into profound hibernation. Male groundhogs go from den to den finding a female when they are courting. Once the cubs (baby groundhogs) are born, the male groundhog leaves and searches for another female. They would chuck 700 lbs. of wood.
