October Calendar Songs and Vowel Chart

Holy shamoley.  I have been busy!  It’s crazy how a new month sneaks up on you so fast!  I’ve heard your e-mails and requests for the new calendar songs, and here they are!

Monday and Tuesday of this week we are in professional development in our district.  This morning we were “Google-ized” and learned about all of the fun Google apps we can use in our classroom.

This afternoon, we were in literacy breakout sessions.  In one of the sessions that I went to, they talked about this book:

They showed a video clip from the DVD that accompanies the book of some guided writing.  In the clip the teacher had a great little anchor chart to help kiddos that were struggling to find the right vowel sound.  I knew instantly that I needed to re-create that chart!

So, here you go!  There is a large chart to hold up and a smaller one for kiddos to put in their writing folder.

Hey, friends, leave a little comment when you download Smile They make me so happy!

  23. Love the vowel chart. Unfortunately, my kids aren't ready for something like that yet. They don't know how to hold their pencils =(.

  24. @Madam Pemberly - you made me laugh! My kids aren't ready for it yet either - we just saw it in a video and I knew if I didn't make it right away I would forget about it! You're babies will get there soon! No worries - they always end up where they need to be in the end!

  25. Thank you SOOOO much for everything you share. Just wanted you to know that there is a typo on your October calendar (from one of your other calendar posts). It has October 3 twice (Monday and Tuesday). The vowel chart is awesome. My students aren't ready for it either, but I will be printing it tonight anyway. Hopefully I'll remember where I put it when it's time to use it.

  29. My class (1st/2nd combined) and I love your calendar songs. It's so fun to hear them spell their months (with a cute little tune). Also, I think I might use your vowel sound strip with one of my struggling students. Thanks!

  34. I'm a teacher of 3 1/2 year olds. I loved your What's the Password? idea for the classroom door!!! I have to explain the whole concept to these youngsters, but then envision lots of excitement as they are confronted with a brand-new letter or sight word hidden under the construction paper.

I just wish I could find a website tailored specifically for 3 1/2 year olds that also deals with things like sight words, letter sounds, etc. One of these days.....

    Thanks again!
